Sacred Canons & Sacred Craft
Each icon created in our studio strictly adheres to centuries-old Eastern Orthodox ecclesiastical traditions and theology.
Aged solid linden wood panels are carved by hand and prepared with multiple layers of traditional rabbit-skin glue and chalk gesso (levkas). The halo and celestial background are gilded with 24K pure gold leaf and burnished with natural agate stone. The sacred figures are written in prayer and stillness using natural mineral pigments—such as lapis lazuli, malachite, and ochres—emulsified with fresh egg yolk tempera.
